THE GURUKUL SYSTEM AND WHY INDIAN EDUCATION NEEDS TO ADOPT IT The gurukul system of education has been in existence since ancient times. It was more prevalent during the Vedic age where shishyas [students] were taught various subjects and about how to live a cultured and disciplined life by their Gurus [teacher]. The Gurukul aims to provide shishyas a holistic way of education.
